The Move for 2017…

Last year I stepped into January 1st with a plan of #366daysoflove (it was a leap year 🙂 ), planning to #workonwonderful

January 1st 2016

Good thing because life events later that month knocked me flat on my azz… They forced me to have to concentrate on putting in some (tough & overdue) personal work. But, I did it. I put in the (uncomfortable) work and today I’m better for it and am grateful for my crew that loves me that was right there to help put me back together again. Kinda like Humpty Dumpty… Yesterday I left 2016 behind feeling like I’d accomplished Sade’s verse from Bullet Proof Soul, “I came in like a lamb, but I intend to leave like a lion.”

It’s January 1st 2017 and I’m planning #365moredaysoflove. This is a big year for me, I’ll soon be celebrating 50 years of life on this planet. #foreveryoung. It’s a gift that I’m grateful for and one I intend to honor. I’ll occasionally be honoring it with a new BIG fro in lioness style, because my inner diva wears a BIG fro… A BIG fro that’s mine because I paid for it (ain’t no shame in my game). 🙂 A BIG fro that will be a reminder to not play small in 2017, because even if I try to you just can’t with a BIG fro because people stare and you either have to wear it and own it and/or be willing to stare back and I always win the staring contest- just ask my daughter, nieces and nephews. A BIG fro that’s fun, has Shaft as its theme music (thanks to my friend Tavares, lol) and requires an invite for a party of two: BIG fro plus one. A BIG fro that makes it ok to ask, are you AND your BIG fro coming?? A BIG fro that reminds me as I see 50 on the horizon that life is short and you better do the things that make you happy – even if it’s something as simple as wearing a BIG fro when the spirit hits you. Step into the scene with a gangsta lean…

Here’s to wishing you and me more love, peace and happiness in 2017. To hoping that we all follow our dreams and do the things we love with the people we love who love us back. Here’s to not playing small and to putting in the work so we can own it. To remembering that life is short and you need to live it. To honoring and celebrating ourselves in 2017 and always… to infinity and beyond.

Let’s do this 2017… and in my best Pastor Troy voice I say, ~we ready, we ready~
